HEALTHCARE   SUPPORT                 QQI Level 5 Major Award  5M4339.

QQI Health care courses are a one year programme commencing September 2016 – May 2017 and will run from Monday to Friday 8.55 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.


The course subjects will, upon completion equip students with the necessary skills to work within the Caring Profession as Carers, Health Care Assistants and also Home Help Assistants.


Learners who participate on this programme will complete 10 individual modules, and can then choose which major award they wish to apply for. Learners can only apply for one of the awards. This means the programme will appeal to learners who wish to become care assistants and those that wish to progress to nursing at third level.


Who should participate in this course:


Healthcare Support Certificate:

Learners who are looking to pursue a career as a Health Care Assistant in a hospital or nursing home. It is anticipated in the sector that this award will be the minimum qualification for Healthcare Assistants.


Nursing Studies Certificate:

Learners who are looking to pursue further third level studies with a view to becoming a qualified nurse.  Learners wishing to gain additional points for their CAO entry onto a nursing degree programme

The full QQI Level 5 award facilitates entry, on a competitive basis to a range of third level institutions nationwide:

Mature Nursing Degree programmes UCC: General Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing and Intellectual Disability Nursing.

Other courses: Midwifery, Social Care, Sports Rehabilitation, Health and Disability Studies.

Entry Requirements

Attendance for Interview

Leaving Cert standard or equivalent

Mature Students; experience is considered in lieu of education/formal qualification

Proficiency in English (Oral & Written)

Garda Vetting

Learners must be 18 years old by the 30th November 2015 to facilitate work experience and Garda vetting

Places are offered following successful interview.

Course approved for E.T.B. Grant application and VTOS places also available
